june 27-29: busy airport travelers, surprisingly good plane food, and finally arriving in Bangalore after much anticipation

Above picture: The view I saw when my head got tired at the Frankfurt airport.
This is the inaugural posting. Future postings will be a lot shorter. I don’t want you to have to read mini-novels each time you check it out.

From Oakland to LAX to Frankfurt to Mumbai (Bombay) to Bangalore. The trip spanned two days and covered plenty of time zones. I enjoyed the people-watching. The people milling around the LAX airport were worlds apart from the people milling around the Mumbai airport. But then again, LAX people are worlds apart from people milling around any other US airport, too.

I was a huge cheapskate. During the two days, I only ate airplane food and only read books/magazines that I had brought. I hate paying outrageously inflated airport prices.

The airplane food on Indian Air was good. It was all authentic Indian food. You could taste the love and dedication that some chef had used to make it. I think all airlines could learn something from Indian Air.

Lesson of the day (for airlines): If you make some decent food, some idiot with a blog will tell all his friends about it.

P.S. I read an article by Dave Eggers the other day about how he decided to print McSweeney's in Iceland simply because it had always fascinated him and he needed an excuse to travel there. He was met at the press by Oompa Loompa like men in blue jumpsuits with an astonishing work ethic. And the celebrities written up in the Icelandic tabloids were only so many, so events like walking their dogs would be given a full spread of photos.

I happen to be a loyal customer of LAX and I am somewhat offended by your assessment of my colleagues.
